Marching into March
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
As we march in the month of March, we will continue our letter of the week, learning about letters M, N, O, and P. As well, we will be celebrating some fun events through the month.
This month we will be honoring the Doctors birthday! That is Dr.Seuss of course! Theodor Seuss Geisel better known as Dr.Seuss was born in 1904 and would be 110 years old! In his honor we will be doing an author study, reading many books by Dr.Seuss, recognizing patterns in his writing, and learning about his life, we will top this off with a Dr.Seuss movie on Friday, March 7th! Keep your eyes peeled for our
Dr.Seuss bulletin board.
We will be learning about the letter M and M is for Monkeys! We will be going bananas for books this month and exploring a variety of different types of monkeys and their habitats continuing our theme “HEDP has gone wild.”
We will cover the letter N and learning about Numbers! We will be playing a variety of math games, practicing our counting, and exploring concepts such as addition and subtraction.
The alphabet will continue and we will learn about the letter O is for ocean. We will be learning about a variety of animals that live in the ocean and creating our ocean full of sea creatures!
The first day of Spring springs upon us on March 20th. We will be welcoming the spring season with our theme P is for Planting. We will be using shapes to create flowers, doing planting, and learning how plants grow. Keep your eyes open for our spring blossoms!
On Friday, March 28th we will be having a birthday bash for our two friends with March birthdays!
Please Welcome Caitlyn Ennis
Caitlyn is a Wheelock student that began at HEDP three years ago interning in the 3-6 classroom, for her Human Growth and Development class. She has since been working at extended day in the K, 1, and 2/3 classrooms. We are so happy to have Caitlyn part of the 4-6 team on Monday and Wednesday afternoons!
What is happening in 4-6?
The 4-6 Students finished up their unit on landmarks and made small scale models of them. Landmarks included: Epcot Center, Mount Rushmore, Golden Gate Bridge, Fenway Park, Times Square, Gateway Arch, Cloud Gate and The Space Needle. We are so proud of the hard work students put into these models. We are continuing onto a unit on U.S. cities to accommodate one student’s goal of “learn more about U.S. cities.” The unit began with a Jeopardy style trivia game where kids answered questions in categories such as: City Population, Capital Cities, Name the State, Sports and Cities, and Fun City Facts. We will continue this unit with learning about New Orleans while celebrating Mardi Gras and Nashville also known as “Music City.” During the week of St. Patrick’s day, we will incorporate a unit on Ireland. Learning about Ireland is another goal of one of our students.
-On Friday, March 7 and Friday, March 15, 4-6 students will have the opportunity to watch Heath School Variety Show.
-Family Dinner is schedule for Thursday, March 27th.

We hope everyone had a Fabulous February! We look forward to welcoming spring after all the snow we’ve had! We had fun celebrating Valentine's Day and being creative while making Valentines. We used that week to practice being extra kind and working on being a good friend. We learned about different wild animals and penguins this month. The children made some amazing animal crafts and were able to incorporate math while learning about penguins. Our class celebrated one of the children’s birthdays in February on the 28th with a birthday bash! The children had fun decorating a birthday card and eating chocolate cupcakes with lots of sprinkles!
We will start the month of March by celebrating Dr.Seuss. We will be reading many of his stories and watching “The Lorax”! We will also focus on accomplishing more of the children’s goals; including making gingerbread cookies, learning about the sky, and creating bead jewelry. We will be having a Sports Day on March 5th as a Wish Day. The children can bring in one sports item to share or play with. We will also incorporate anti-bullying lessons throughout the month. We will have a St. Patrick's Day celebration on the 17th! We will explore signs of spring and different forms of weather, including tornadoes.
A couple of reminders this month…
* Please sign your child out EVERYDAY!
* School Variety Show is on March 14th at 2:00pm and we will be bringing the children!

The HEDP classroom is going to flip our calendar pages to the month of March and be naming this month Friendship Month. This month we will have a weekly goal to be more mindful of treating our peers with the respect and kindness that we all like to be treated with. We will continue with our Rainbow Fish decorations in which the children have been creating scales for a our giant fish that has positive attributes of the children in the room. The children have asked to have the opportunity to share their art work, so the classroom now has an art gallery by the entrance of the classroom - please take a moment to take a look at their works of art.
The children appeared to enjoy participating in the new reward program which was introduced in the month of February, they now earn "money" for their bank account rather than a small piece of candy as prizes for the daily challenge and when they go above and beyond or they are spotted doing an usually act of kindness. It looks like we are getting close to a point where we may need to open up the "SURPRIZE CHEST" which is still somewhat empty -so if anyone has any gentle used donations for our "treasure chest" they would be greatly appreciated. During the first week in March we will honor Dr. Seuss by offering Dr. Seuss themed activities and continue to fulfill the children's wish days.
Finally, if you would like your child to have the opportunity to create and paint a Tee-shirt or hat with his/her own whimsical character on it please send in a Tee Shirt. This activity will only be offered to children who have items to paint.
