Observations, Interviews and
Each year, our team of teachers begins the year asking each child what his/her goal is for the coming school year. The children are excited to share what THEY want to learn. Some children note very simple things like how to tie a shoe and others note very complex goals like learn about Germany. Our team of teachers will take each child's goal and figure out how to incorporate it into our curriculum. It begins as a daunting challenge to weave 115 child goals into our already busy curriculum, but, our team does with with pride! The true challenge is to remind the children what his/her goal is on a regular basis and document how each child is progressing. However, this can be accomplished with great time management and having the children think of his/her goal as something they can contribute to our program.
Below you will find examples, templates and tools that our team of teachers use to help keep focus of how easy it is to incorporate a child centered curriculum by using individual child goals, portfolio collection and teacher observation. Our teaching team aims to reach the whole child on an individual level. Thus, it helps create a caring community of children who respect each-others goals, interested and abilities.
Please feel free to use the templates below to help enhance your program and feel free to contact us should you have specific questions, concerns or ideas on how to enhance our current system. Thank you for taking the time to view this important information as teaching a child centered curriculum will only enhance the curriculum, program and strengthen your teaching team.
