Minion Newsletter
May 2017 The children have continued to demonstrate a talent for public speaking with the “15 Minutes of Fame” series. During the month of April we learned about one child’s adventures in Florida and about a child’s affinity for 3D art as she shared a piece she created by cutting and taping paper in a creative manner. We have also had a few children who have chosen to read aloud their favorite books to their friends. We heard The Day the Crayons Came Home, by Drew Daywalt, A Giraffe and A Half by Shel Silverstein, and What Animals Really Like by Fiona Robinson. Our audience has continued to do a fabulous job listening to the presenter and asking thoughtful questions. We finished up the month with a child organizing a game named “Kaboosh.” To play this game the children had to write one word on a piece of paper and then the children in the classroom merged the words together to create a highly imaginative and comical story. We are looking forward to continuing the “15 Minutes of Fame” series until June, at which point every child that signed up to share will have had an opportunity. There is a schedule posted near the sign out book to ensure that you and your child has plenty of time to prepare. If you know your child will be absent on the particular day, please let us know so that we can reschedule. We are looking forward to the days becoming both longer and warmer. In anticipation, we have started decorating our classroom with umbrellas that share what each child enjoys most about “April Showers.” We were sad to postpone our field trip to visit our readers at the Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association due to rain, but we are looking forward to going on the make-up date on Tuesday, May 2nd! We cannot wait to see how the blooming daffodils that the children planted in the fall and hear the wonderful stories shared in a fun, new location. We will also enjoy a special snack while the readers shared the stories. The Yellow Team has planned a fun filled month of May! Throughout the 2016-2017 school year, the children have created a community whose core values are based upon kindness and respect towards everyone they encounter. As the year winds down, we will be looking to include the other classrooms in our core values by creating flowers that will be shared with the four other classrooms. Throughout the month we will be discussing different members of the community, different kinds of communities, and important qualities of positive community members. Our month long project will encourage the children to reflect about those important qualities and the role that the children play within their community. Please check out our display in the classroom under the umbrella. Our garden will be blooming soon and each child will share how they feel they have grown as part of both the HEDP and the Minion Room community in our “garden.” Please make sure that as the weather changes that children are dressing appropriately and have refillable water bottles. We always go outside to enjoy some fresh air and want to make sure that every child is comfortable and well hydrated. Safety is our number one priority, please make sure you sign your child out each and every day! We would like to thank the families that donated items to our classroom and the program. A couple of reminders this month… Please make sure you sign your child out at the end of each day!!
