Sports and Games The 3-6 class will spend the first half of March participating in a variety of sports and games. We have noticed a great interest in sports and games amongst the students in 3-6. This year in particular, students seem to thrive when given the opportunity to take part in competitive and non- competitive sports and games. Sports and games will include, but not limited to: Trivia, Minute-To-Win-It (based on the hit TV show), teacher facilitated group board games, street hockey, flag football, knock-out, touch football, DVD brain games, basketball and soccer. Sports and Games not only keep their bodies and minds active, but it also gives the students more opportunity to team build, problem solve, and practice sportsmanship. We will finish the unit with a 3-6 field day. There will be a variety of field day activities for the kids to participate and compete in. Such activities will include: Three-legged race, long jump, pull ups, relays, hula hooping, jump roping, and more!
Changes To the 3-6 Program Due to the reconstruction of the Heath School Cafeteria, beginning in April, changes will be made to the 3-6 extended day program. Starting in April, 3-6 group will report to the library at school dismissal to check in with an extended day teacher. Students in grades 4-6 will do homework in the library for the one hour structured homework time. Students in grade 3 will check in and then go upstairs to work on their homework for the one hour structured homework time. We will use the library and the upstairs extended day room for activities, arts and crafts, games, cooking, and projects. The sign out book will be located in the library. Please continue to sign out your child and check in with a teacher daily. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with Noelle or a 3-6 team teacher. New HEDP Clubs Begin after April Break Wishing you a great day! Fondly, 3-6 Teaching Team

Dear Families,
I am happy to announce that our 3rd-6th grade program will be moving into the Heath School library beginning April 1st 2012. After a few meetings and successful collaboration, Heath School Principal, Carrie Wilson and Librarian, Collen Carney has secured the library for Heath Extended Day from 2:20pm-5:45pm Monday though Friday. We have been working hard to insure that these changes due not cause challenges for the children and feel this move will be a successful transition. Please note that pickup will be in the library and will continue to require the appropriate sign out procedure. We appreciate your understanding and hope this will help ease your questions and concerns. We are lucky to have build a strong relationship within the Heath School and look forward to sharing space with the library. Please feel free to contact me at 617-879-4565 or by email should you have any questions or concerns. Warmly, Noelle and the 3-6 Teaching Team We hope everyone had a Fabulous February! We look forward to welcoming spring even though we have had such mild weather! We had fun celebrating Valentine's Day and being creative while making Valentines. We used that week to practice being extra kind and working on being a good friend. We continue to receive Flat Stanley from friends and family. The children are so excited when he comes back from an adventure with pictures to share. His journal is becoming very full! If you took Flat Stanley on an adventure during February vacation please be sure he returns to school. Our class celebrated three of the children’s birthdays in February on the 9th with a birthday bash! The children had fun decorating giant birthday cards and decorating funfetti cupcakes!
This month we will focus on different cultures around the world, including Italy, Africa, Vietnam, France, Portugal and Ireland. We will have a St. Patrick's Day celebration on the 16th! We will explore signs of spring and different forms of weather. Through the year we will be doing art appreciation and focusing on several different artists and types of art. This month we will focus on Michelangelo and sculptures. We will observe works of his art found in Italy and explore with clay. We can't wait to see what amazing creations the children come up with!
