In march we made more memories inside our new classroom. We are continuing to explore and enjoy our new space! April is a busy month with three early release days and April Vacation. We also have a lot planned for letters S, T, U, and V. For the letter S we will be focusing on Space. We have an activity that shows the distance each of the planets are in relation to the sun. We will also be learning the planet song to help incorporate music into our curriculum. We put letters T and U into one week. Along with working on letter sounds, how to write these letters, and words that start with these letters we will be holding a special event. We know that you cannot have Q without U, so on Friday, the 17th we will be holding the exquisite wedding of Q and U. There will be a separate newsletter and invitation coming out with more information on this event. Lastly, for the letter V, we will be creating vases in art. We are excited about creating paper-mache volcanoes and talking about different explosions and chemical reactions. We will be adding science experiments into this week as well. We look forward to warmer weather! Welcome to April - Hopefully, Spring is finally here! In March, we enjoyed reading a Dr. Seuss book every day and worked on creating rhyming words just like the rhyming master himself, Dr. Seuss. We enjoyed some Dr. Seuss themed snacks such as one fish two fish jello, “cat in the hat” kabob” made out of bananas and strawberries and of course the children made Green Eggs and Ham. The children in the class also made Oobleck after reading "Bartholomew and the Oobleck." All of these activities challenged the children to read, follow directions, and practice mathematical skills such as creating patterns and measuring.
We hope everyone had a wonderful March! Hopefully the warmer weather is on its way so that we may spend more time outside! It was so exciting to watch some of our second and third graders perform in the variety show. They did an excellent job! We spent the month of March going over bullying and discussing different ways to be a good friend and kind person. It is so important to review this topic as often as possible and reinforce an anti-bullying message at home. We also spent some time learning how to research a topic and the children were able to use the computers to find information on underwater creatures and how money is made. We also accomplished some of the kid’s goals, like baking and creating with art. We celebrated seven birthdays in March and made green frosted brownies for St. Patrick’s Day! For the month of April we will be learning how to create a collage using magazine photos, learning about professional basketball athletes and research on how glow n the dark works. The children will have the opportunity to make glow n the dark Jell-O! This month we have three (3) early release days at 12:40pm. April 7th we will be having a Paint n Party. The charge is $10 per child. April 15th we will be having a Lego themed day and watching the Lego Movie. This event is free! April 28th we will meet a variety of animals when Curious Creatures visits us. The charge is $8.
