![]() Minion Newsletter October 2015 “If you live your life with passion, every second will become an adventure.” ― Marie Guillaume, Mr. Wolf V. the Three Pigs: Mr. Wolf Goes to Court During the month of September the Yellow Team decided to call themselves the “Minions” for the remainder of the school year. They spent time getting to know their new classmates and welcoming those that joined the “Minion” room by showing them around and helping them settle into the daily routine. The Minions’ outstanding acts of thoughtfulness and kindness has earned them multiple links on their caring chain, which will eventually lead to a special event/wish day when it is 5 feet long. The volunteer readers who visited the first grade classroom last year will visit the Minion room this year. Their first visit was on September 23rd and after an afternoon of storytelling, they were able to enjoy cookies and milk with the children before choice time began. In October, we will be learning about fairy tales and comic books. The children will stretch their imagination and sense of adventure by working with friends to create their very own endings to the Three Little Pigs. They will work together to think of other scenerios as to why the wolf might want to blow the pigs’ houses down and come up with a solution for the problem, which they will present to the class. Additionally during the weeks of our learning about fairy tales, the children will develop their very own wild and crazy Mad-Lib of the Three Little Pigs during our daily meeting. Towards the end of the month once the childrens’ imaginations are going wild, we are going to add in some adventure to the Minions’ day. Each child will have the opportunity to create their very own comic book and Super Hero Cape. When the comic books are complete, they will be shared with their classmates during reading time on October 30th. Please feel free to bring in a change of clothes for your child, tucked in a large Ziploc bag and labeled. Also, please make sure that as the weather changes that children are dressing appropriately because we always go outside to enjoy some fresh air. A couple of reminders this month… * Your child’s safety is one of our main priorities. To help us with this, please remember to sign your child out everyday. The sign out book will be located outside the cafeteria along with a board showing the location of the 1/2 Yellow class at that time. October Newsletter
Dear 3-4 families, Happy fall! We had a great first few weeks of school at HEDP, working hard on silhouette self-portraits, sharing about our summers, and getting to know our new students. Everybody wrote letters to themselves that no one else will read about hopes and goals for the school year, which we will give back in June. Throughout October, we will begin to meet with each student individually to come up with a goal for this year to be worked toward at extended day. In the past, we have seen goals that are skill-related, such as working on writing skills, as well as more specific ones, like leaning how glow in the dark works. We can’t wait to see what our students have in mind! We are lucky to have Paul join our team as an assistant teacher. Paul is a previous Heath student himself, and is glad to be back in the Heath school community! As the weather gets cooler, please remember to send warm layers. We will spend time outside every day. Also, please encourage your child to bring an independent reading book for homework time. Thanks!
![]() Can you believe that we have already been in school for a month? As the weather is cooling down and the leaves are changing, we have planned some fun fall activities for your children. They range from science experiments to arts and crafts. Some of the activities that we will be doing are making leaf sun catchers to decorate our classroom, making our own butter, and dissolving candy in different liquids. We will also do a apple taste test and chart our favorite apples as well as document the changes in the trees by tracing shadows. Each month we will celebrate birthday in a collective manner by offering a birthday bash for everyone born in that particular month. Our October Birthday Bash will be Thursday October 22nd, 2015. Thank you! Angelica, Christiane & Katrin Wish List Three 8x14 photo frames October has officially begun which means our theme of fall & Where the Wild Things Are is starting as well! We will also be implementing Adventures with Amanda on Wednesdays with our new teacher Amanda! Amanda Breckner is currently completing her Elementary Degree at Lesley and is also student teaching at Heath! We are happy to welcome Amanda to the HEDP teaching Team! Finally, it’s Fire Safety Month so we will be visiting the Fire House by the end of the month to meet firefighters and learn about fire safety and what it means to be a fire fighter! We will be asking each child to create a map of your home and hope you will be able to take a few minutes to help them identify exits and a safe meeting place outdoors. In addition, do not forget to change the batteries in your smoke and CO2 alarms. “Let the wild rumpus start!” Special Requests & notes *Please look out for permission slips for both the Fire House Trip and movie day. *Heads up!
