March 2017 During the month of February the children made homemade ice cream on Groundhog day with the hope that the groundhog won’t see his shadow and Spring would be coming soon! Our temporary tattoo activity was such a hit that we will offer this again during the month of March. With parent permission, the children will use their imaginations and artistic skills to apply temporary tattoos (made out of cold cream, water, cornstarch, and food coloring) to their hands and arms. We celebrated Valentine’s Day with the outside readers completing our reading of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by enjoying chocolate dipped fruit sticks. As a group we also began reading stories and discussing what it means to be a good friend. In the upcoming month, the children will continue exploring what it means to be a good friend by completing work on their “Friend-ships.” When all the children on the Yellow team finish their projects they will be installed on our wall in the cafeteria. The Yellow Team will continue to celebrate the changing of the seasons, and on March 20th we will welcome spring with a special celebration involving a special snack and some writing about the season. At the request of the children, each Yellow team member will have the opportunity to take center stage during our daily meeting (if they would like to) to share something with the whole group. During this time they may choose to demonstrate their reading skills by sharing their favorite story, share a favorite toy from home, or lead the group in a game. We will be asking over the next few days to see who is interested in participating in what we’re calling the “15 Minutes of Fame.” We will make a schedule based on who is interested and which days they attend Extended Day. The schedule will be posted in the near future, with at least 2 weeks notice, to ensure that you and your child have plenty of time to prepare. If you know your child will be absent on the particular day please let us know so that your child’s “15 Minutes of Fame” can be rescheduled. Please make sure that as the weather changes that children are dressing appropriately because we always go outside to enjoy some fresh air. Please make sure you sign your child out each and every day! We would like to thank the families that donated items to our classroom and the program. Thank you for helping us to make the experience of all the children on the Yellow team a wonderful one! A couple of reminders this month… Wish List Clorox Wipes Rainbow looms bands Aqua Beads
