September 2012 Heath Extended Day 3-6 News Welcome Back 3-6 Families! Welcome returning families, new families, and 3rd grade families! We hope you all had a very enjoyable relaxing summer, and are ready to begin another year with Heath Extended Day! We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child and learn about your child’s goals and interests to create a program tailored to fit this year’s 3-6 group. We are excited to announce that the Malaina LeSage, Ellie Edraos , Kevin Doherty and Jared Mael have returned for another year teaching together with the 3-6 class! Introduction to the 3-6 Teaching Team Malaina LeSage: This will be Malaina’s sixth year working with HEDP’s 3-6 students. Malaina is a graduate of Umass Amherst and has been working in an after-school setting for the past ten years. Malaina enjoys reading, cooking, and watching Boston sports! Ellie Edraos: Ellie is excited to be returning to work with 3rd-6th graders who attend HEDP for her second year. Ellie enjoys horseback riding, spending time with family and friends, and cooking. Kevin Doherty: This will be Kevin's second year working with HEDP's 3-6 students Kevin is an alumni from Wheaton College (MA) and has been working as a paraprofessional in the Brookline system since 2005. Kevin enjoys making people laugh, spending time with family/friends, and coaching. Jared Mael: Jared excitedly returns to HEDP for his fourth year. This is the second year that he will be doing various clubs at extended day and is looking forward to bringing new experiences to all of the HEDP families!! Jared enjoys movies, musical instruments, cooking, science, computers, outdoor activities, sports, and Ice skating. Tentative 3-6 Daily Schedule 2:20 Arrival and Attendance Please call or email HEDP as early as possible if your child will not be attending HEDP. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as 2:20 is a very busy transition time. 2:30 Homework and Snack A one hour quiet homework/reading time will be provided daily. Students will be given assigned seats in order to make their use of homework time most efficient. All students should bring a book for when they are finished their homework. Students will be able to use additional time later in the day if needed to complete work. Homework help will be provided by HEDP teachers. Snack will be provided daily and students will be given designated times to enjoy their snack. 3:30 Meeting Students will be informed on any news, reminders, special activities and the day’s schedule and events. 3:45 Outdoor Play/Gym/Activities The amount of outdoor time and gym time will depend on the weather and the day’s schedule. We like to provide as much physical activity possible for this age group. Activities will vary depending on the theme of the week. Activities could include arts and crafts, cooking, sewing, beading, sports, group games, board games, drawing, trivia and more! 5:15 Clean up 5:30 Small group game or activity 5:45 HEDP closes Please be aware of late charges which can be found in your HEDP parent contract. Important Information for Parents *Please promptly call or email with a change to your child’s scheduled day or if there is an alternate person picking his/her up. *It is required that your child is signed out daily with your signature and time of pick up. Safety is our number one priority. Please be sure to check in the a 3-6 teacher when picking up your child. This is a great time to communicate about your child’s day. Also, it let’s us know that your child is leaving. *Please read the “news, notes, and reminders” page daily. It will keep you updated on upcoming events, information and reminders. *Mail will be located at the sign out station. Please promptly take any papers with your child’s name on it. Mail will include news, reminders, field trip permission slips and more! *Your child’s day at HEDP is important to us. Feel free to contacts us at anytime with any thoughts, questions or concerns.
