Heath Extended Day 5-7 Newsletter During the month of March During the month of March, we continued granting wish days for the 5-7 students. We had two pizza parties, electronics day, movie day, engineering day, and an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party for this month’s wish days. During engineering day, students used a 21st invention kit called a MaKey MaKey. Using this device, students can turn everyday objects into touchpads for use with the internet. Students turned apples, hershey kisses, and even themselves into touchpads and played an online piano, Super Mario, and Pac Man. The Alice In Wonderland Tea Party was a tea party. Students drank tea and lemonade, and enjoyed bagels, donuts and chocolate covered pretzel treats. In addition, students watched the Alice In Wonderland movie, made clocks, and played croquet! This month students learned how to make chocolate ice cream using cocoa powder, condensed milk, vanilla, and whipping cream. They also learned how to make vanilla cake from scratch! These activities helped individual students achieve their goals. We are so proud of all of the HEDP students that participated in the Heath School Variety Show! 5-7 students attended both variety shows to support their peer performers and sibling performers! Great job! March family dinner consisted of a pasta bar and garlic bread. Students mixed and matched ravioli and shells with marinara sauce and alfredo sauce. Students made both sauces from scratch, as well as the garlic bread, and chocolate cream pie for dessert! March Iron Chef Competition was “Dip that Chip”. Using a yankee swap style pick of ingredients, students chose one item from a variety of ingredients. Unknown to them as to what the ingredients were going to be used for, they chose their favorite item, them were randomly placed in groups. Using the ingredients picked from each students in a group, they were instructed to make two different chip dips. Students had to use all the ingredients between the two dips! Creations were a three layer Mexican dip, a guacamole surprise dip, a parsley ranch dip, and an onion dip! During the month of April On Mondays for five weeks, students will participate in a new set of club choices. Choices include photography and creative handwork. During photography club, Zoe will lead the group. They will learn an introduction to photography and take and print photos using digital cameras. In creative handwork club, students will take part in activities such as sewing and embroidery. Each week, there will be a new DIY project! Additionally, students will learn how to make homemade chocolate cupcakes, caramel cake, and donuts as part of student goals. We will also have a math bee!
