September Newsletter
9/1/2017 This Month: Welcome back! This year our team is made up of third and fourth grade students. We will be based in the school’s cafeteria, and our team name is the “Bears.” We look forward to starting group cooking, sports, art and science activities together in the coming weeks of September. We are easing into things this year by sharing a little about ourselves at our meetings each day. Each student will be given a paper bag that they can fill with a few things from home to share during our meeting to let their friend’s know what some of their interests are and how they like to pass their time at home. Please remind your children to bring in a book that they find interesting in the event that they finish their homework early. Each day we will have a 45 minute homework block and we have many books for the children to look through, but it is always helpful for the kids to have a compelling book on hand. Upcoming: Nick is looking forward to beginning an ongoing “Artist of the Month” unit, where the Bears can learn about unqiue artists throughout this schoolyear. We will encourage the Bears to share the names of different artist’s they are already interested in, and hopefully share some great new information and artwork with the kids as the year progresses. On September 21st school will be closed for Rosh Hashana. Today in History: Each day we will share a Today in History topic with the Bears. For example: Last friday, September 8th, the kids learned that Ernest Hemingway’s famous short novel The Old Man and the Sea was published on the same day in 1952. We looked at some photos of writer/adventurer Ernest Hemingway and then watched a short, animated adaptation of the story, together. Every day we will find a new Today in History to share, feel free to share any upcoming Today in History topics with your children, as we are always looking for new, unique stories to share. Josh & Nick
