Another month has flown by! January was packed with exciting projects and activities. On our first week back from break we welcomed the New Year by making resolutions. We had our own New Years celebration which included a countdown to “midnight” while watching the ball drop and throwing pom poms in the air. On week 2 we focused on the moon and the stars. We read lots of books and learned a lot of new facts. We also completed some star and moon art projects. We had the opportunity to go to the Extended Day play put on by the 4th graders! It was great experience for our kids to witness older students perform and practice being a great audience. After MLK day we spent the week talking about leadership and reading books about influentual civil rights leaders. A few of our students got to take on leadership roles in our classroom by teaching classmates something new. Our last full week in January was dedicated to learning about Chinese New Year! We made chinese lanterns, dragon masks, and fire breathing dragons! We have been spending time helping each student achieve a goal they set for themself this year. It has been awesome to see them make progress towards reaching these goals. We will finish off January and move into February with a week dedicated to sports! We will talk about and practice some sports we already know. We will also learn about sports in other parts of the world that we may not know much about. Other Febuary themes will include science, friendship, and Dr. Seuss! Please remember to sign your child out at pickup! Thank you! Warm wishes, Krista, Tess, and Kelly The first grade is looking for cardboard for a project we will be doing Friday, February 10th. We would love for you to bring in any you may have at home, thank you!
