3-6 Extended Day Newsletter Kindness in the classroom During the month of February, the 3-6 classroom reintroduced the “caring chain.” Students had the opportunity to recognize other students in the classroom for their kindness. On a paper link, students’ wrote down the name of a student that displayed kind behavior along with their act of kindness. The paper links are read aloud during meeting time so that the students’ names that are on the link can be recognized. The individual paper links are then linked together to create a “caring chain.” This activity helps students identify kind behavior and also motivates students’ to do more random acts of kindness in the classroom. We find that as important as it is to be a caring and kind person, it is also just as important to recognize and appreciate others kindness. We will see how long the chain is at the end of March! Furthermore, continually, the 3-6 classroom will take part in other activities that will promote kindness in the classroom! During the month of March The 3-6 students have really enjoyed the opportunity to “make a wish” in the classroom. We were busy in the month of February granting wishes to students and will continue granting wishes in March. Please continue to check the wish day schedule located on the bulletin board at the top of the stairs in the 3-6 room. There have been wish days that have needed to be rescheduled. In February, children enjoyed helping out in the younger extended day classrooms, participating in sports wish days such as soccer and hockey, ice cream parties, a pizza party, electronics day and special cooking activities. We look forward to celebrating the upcoming wish days in March. When all wish days have been granted, 3-6 will continue to focus individual goals the students made for themselves. We have a unit on Germany planned for the end of March since one student had this for a goal! No School Friday, March 29th: No School A huge thank you to families that have made various donations to the 3-6 classroom. We really appreciate all that you do!
