Heath Extended Day 4-7 News! What has been happening in 4-7 Wow! The first month of the school year has flown by! The kids were very busy in the month of September setting their personal goals, taking part in daily challenges, creating pictures for the shout out board, sewing clothes for dolls, learning the classroom expectations and schedule, playing games, playing “pick up” sports outside, catching up on old friendships and creating new ones. We are so excited to learn and talk about each child’s personal goal for the year. From Science goals, to cooking goals, to sports goals to academic goals we have great ideas for a curriculum based around these goals! For the September family dinner, the children made breakfast for dinner.. Students worked in small groups to prepare scrambled eggs, pancakes, hash browns, bacon, and chocolate pudding (for dessert)! They did a great job communicating with each other and working together to create family dinner. We noticed that students in the pancake group communicated a plan to take turns pouring the batter and flipping the pancakes, while students in the pudding group read the package directions and whipped up three huge bowls of pudding. We had a lovely family dinner and a special toast from one of our 6th grade students “to HEDP!” What to look forward to in October Continuing on in the month of October students will be painting “inspirational art” on canvas. In small groups, students will brainstorm ideas for creating a painting with theme of friendship, teamwork, kindness and/or encouragement. They will be more than welcome to come up with their own theme as well. Students can use quotes and words in their paintings in order to get their inspirational message across. Some students have already begun their inspirational art and we are so pleased with the messages they have portrayed through their paintings. Once complete, the canvas artwork will be displayed in the 4-7 stairway. Also during the month of October, we will begin a Science themed unit.. During these two weeks, students will participate in Science activities and experiments with a fall and Halloween theme. Students will make predictions and observations during each of the experiments. Although the Halloween Science experiments will be gross and gooey, we are sure that is just what they will enjoy! In the last two weeks of October, students will participate in Halloween crafts and activities. 4-7 will host October family dinner will take place on Tuesday, October 28th Reminders - It is important to sign your child out daily.
